Please join us on Thursday, January 28th from 10:40 a.m. - 12:15p.m. featuring Dr. Edward Montgomery, President Western Michigan University. Lansing Economic program begins at 11a.m. Enjoy virtual networking prior to program 10:40-11 a.m. and after the program 12-12:15pm. Dr. Montgomery’s keynote address, “Rethinking the Workforce: Higher Education Must Prepare Change-Ready Professionals,” will provide an economic outlook for the new year and discuss the changing nature of work and the kinds of skills needed as businesses forge ahead into the next decade.

Dr. Edward Montgomery has served in two U.S. presidential administrations. He is a former U.S. deputy labor secretary and chief economist, and he was tapped to lead the inter-agency White House Council for Auto Communities and Workers during the auto crisis of 2008-2009. Prior to taking on his current role leading WMU, President Montgomery was the founding dean of Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy, in addition to serving as a professor of economics there. He has held faculty positions around the country, including at Michigan State University. As a researcher, he has focused on state and local economic growth, wage and pension determination, savings behavior, productivity and economic dynamics, social insurance programs and unions. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics with honors from Pennsylvania State University and a master’s and a doctoral degree in economics from Harvard University. He and his wife, Kari, a Michigan native, have three grown children.
