Event Summary

The unprecedented crisis created by COVID-19 has shown more than ever that the world needs universities with the scope and scale of Michigan’s three largest research universities – Michigan State University, the University of Michigan and Wayne State University. These universities, which make up Michigan’s University Research Corridor (URC), have been at the forefront of responding to and fighting COVID-19. The three universities annually conduct $2.56 billion in research and development and work together through Michigan’s University Research Corridor, the only innovation cluster nationwide whose three universities are headed by medical doctors. The economic and educational impact of the three URC universities is felt in every county statewide.

The presidents of the URC universities will appear together at the Lansing Economic Club to discuss the leadership role their universities have taken to address the crisis in Michigan, including conducting research and developing innovations to fight the spread of the virus, deliver critical healthcare and provide expertise to business and schools to help people get back to work and students back to class. Their discussion will coincide with the release of a URC report brief that highlights the work faculty researchers, medical staff, university staff and students have done and continue to do to deal with the effects of COVID-19 on every aspect of our lives.
